Caterpillar announces new global headquarters

(Apr 25, 2017)

Caterpillar has relocated its global headquarters to Deerfield, Illinois in the United States, to become more accessible to its international customers.

The new headquarters is approximately 20 minutes from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Caterpillar CEO Jim Umpleby said its location is convenient to the city of Chicago via train, achieving the company’s goal of becoming more accessible to its global customers, employees and dealers.

“This site gives our employees many options to live in either an urban or suburban environment,” he said.

“We know we have to compete for the best talent to grow our company, and this location will appeal to our diverse, global team, today and in the future.”

Around 100 employees are expected to relocate this year from the Peoria area where Caterpillar is currently headed, and around 300 workers are set to work in the new site when it becomes fully operational in mid-2018.

“The transition from Peoria to the new global headquarters will begin later this year,” Umpleby said.

He added that the majority of its employees in the Peoria area will not relocate to the new headquarters.

“With our strong presence of over 12,000 employees in central Illinois, we’ll continue our philanthropic support and civic involvement.”

The new headquarters, along with Caterpillar’s Digital and Analytics Hub, contribute to the company’s 60-year presence in Chicago.
